Customer bought new home with a ceiling fan with light, controlled by two wall switches. Fan is on a variable speed switch and light is on dimmer switch. Came with a remote that turns light on and off (not dimmer) and low/med/high for fan which doesn't work well with the 2 variable switches. Asked whether a different remote is available to operate both switches. Seems like an odd duck sort of set up. Wants to keep current fan/light combo as it matches their decor. Anyone hear of a remote that can operate 2 separate variable switches? BTW, customer is related so I can't just walk from this very easy.

If the ceiling fan is a wireless remote-control type, it cannot be controlled by 2 variable wall switches as well. Pick one - the handheld remote with duplicates at every night table and screwed to the wall as the "switch", or choose to control it electrically with wall switches like God meant it to be and delete the radio-controlled canopy receiver.

When it comes to customers who want to alter reality they (and you) have got to learn that you cannot change the laws of physics, and "no" is not a a 4-letter word.

Since the remote isn't working I'm guessing whoever installed it had bypassed the built in receiver (haven't taken it apart yet). Wall switches appear to function as intended. I know Lutron Caseta makes remotes for fans and lights but requires 2 separate remotes. The Picos are quite small and to me are fine enough. Why the installer went down this path makes no sense to me but if changing the switches to the Lutron Caseta works I'd be happy to get this out of my hair!!

Connect the fan to one of the switched wires like black and cap off the red. Now it will be controlled by one switch. Replace the wall control with a regular single pole switch. Either replace the other switch, that now does nothing, or install a blank.
If it's like most remotes, the switch will turn the fan off/on. When it's turned on, the fan will return to settings last used on the remote.
One warning, the remote can be used to turn off both the fan and the light. If the remote has turned everything off, obviously the switch will only supply power to the fan, but nothing will happen.
Leaving a fan speed control and/or dimmer in the wall will burn up the fan.
